A remake of the alchemy-focused role-playing game, Atelier Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland is set in the gradually industrializing kingdom city of Arland, a place where the wonders of ancient alchemy still linger. The story centers on Rorolina Frixell, a cheerful young woman known as Rorona, who has been made to work in a struggling alchemy workshop under the stern master alchemist Astrid to pay off a debt left by her parents. Her quiet routine is upended when Sterkenburg, a knight of Arland, arrives with an ultimatum from the kingdom: the workshop is deemed unproductive and will be shut down unless it can prove its value to the city.
