What Loadout is
Loadout is an arcade game developed by Edge of Reality and released in 2014. It is available on PlayStation 4 and PC (Microsoft Windows).
The premise, in the publisher's words
Loadout is a free-to-play multiplayer third-person shooter developed by Edge of Reality. It was released on Steam for Microsoft Windows, then co-published as a special PlayStation 4 version with P-40 Online Entertainment. Loadout focused on arcade-style multiplayer firefights across a variety of modes and used exaggerated cartoon gore. Players could alter the appearance of their in-game avatar, as well as the properties of their weapons using in-game currency.
How it plays
It is played from a third person perspective. Its themes are action, comedy and science fiction. Available modes: Co-operative and Multiplayer. There are 28 achievements to unlock.
How it was received
Loadout holds a critic score of 79 out of 100. That places it above 66% of the 2,164 rated arcade games in our database, which average 70. Games released in 2014 averaged 69, so it scored 10 points above the year average.
What you need to run it
The minimum specification calls for Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD equivalent or better, 2 GB RAM and ATI Radeon HD 4350 / NVIDIA GeForce 6800 / Intel HD 3000 or better. At 2GB of RAM, it will run on essentially any working PC — that is below what a budget laptop ships with today. Install size is roughly 4GB.
What it launched against
Loadout launched on 31 January 2014, within three weeks of The Last of Us: Left Behind, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, The Banner Saga and Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition. All of them reviewed better. It arrived 1 year into the PlayStation 4's life, so it was built for hardware developers already knew well.
Released around the same time: The Last of Us: Left Behind, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, The Banner Saga, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition.
