Malebolge is a first-person survival horror game set in Dante's Inferno. The player is Dante, alive among the dead, descending from the dark wood to the frozen lake at the bottom of Hell across six chapters, where every location comes from the poem. The creatures that hunt him cannot see where he is: they follow the scent a living body leaves behind, which grows when he runs, when he carries lamp oil and with every name he promises to carry out.

It is played from a first person perspective. Its themes are action, horror and survival. It is a single-player game with no multiplayer component.
