What Monty on the Run is
Monty on the Run is a platform game developed by Jaleco and released in 1987. It is available on Family Computer Disk System only.
The premise, in the publisher's words
In 1987, Jaleco procured the rights to publish Monty on the Run in Japan on the Famicom Disk System. Rather than stay close to the source material, Monty on the Run was drastically changed for this release. Renamed Monty no Doki Doki Daisassou, or "Monty's Heart-Pounding Great Escape", the game plays much more like a straightforward NES platformer. It still retains some aspects of the original, such as a version of Hubbard's famous theme and obtaining necessary escape items.
How it plays
It is played from a side view perspective. Its themes are action. It is a single-player game with no multiplayer component.
What it launched against
Monty on the Run launched on 31 July 1987, within three weeks of Metroid and Double Dragon.
Released around the same time: Metroid, Double Dragon.
