What The Ancient Art of Staying Alive is
The Ancient Art of Staying Alive is an arcade game developed by CaptainD and released in 2020. It is available on Linux and PC (Microsoft Windows).
The premise, in the publisher's words
Based on the old "Daleks" game, TAAOSA turns the concept into an arcade game with 20 levels, 5 game speeds, a challenge mode and the ability set the player either as always moving (MUCH trickier!) or with the ability to stop. Unashamedly retro in every aspect, if you want amazing visuals then look elsewhere, but if you want a simple, challenging game that's randomised every time you play it, you might just find this to be your cup of tea.
How it plays
It is played from a third person perspective. Its themes are action and survival. It is a single-player game with no multiplayer component.
What it launched against
The Ancient Art of Staying Alive launched on 14 March 2020, within three weeks of Doom Eternal, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Persona 5 Royal.
Released around the same time: Doom Eternal, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Persona 5 Royal.
