What World of Tanks is

World of Tanks is an arcade game developed by Wargaming.net and released in 2011. It is available on PC (Microsoft Windows) only. It runs on BigWorld. It carries an ESRB T age rating.

The premise, in the publisher's words

The player takes control of a single armored vehicle of his or her choosing, and is placed into a battle on a random map. The player has control over the vehicle's movement, firing, and can communicate with other players through typed or voice chat, and several preset actions that give tactical instructions visible to only their team. The methods used to win a match are either destroying all vehicles on the opposing team or capturing a base present in some game modes. World of Tanks contains multiple game mechanics such as camouflage, shell ricochets, and module damage.

How it was received

World of Tanks holds a critic score of 73 out of 100. That places it above 49% of the 2,164 rated arcade games in our database, which average 70. Games released in 2011 averaged 68, so it scored 5 points above the year average. Player ratings track closely with critics at 75, across 312 votes.

What you need to run it

The minimum specification calls for Intel Core i5-3330 / AMD FX-6300, 8 GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 / AMD Radeon R9 270, 1280x768 screen resolution. An 8GB memory requirement is modest by current standards; most machines sold in the last five years clear it. It also needs around 120GB of free storage, which is a real consideration on a 512GB drive. Both tiers are compared side by side on the requirements page, and you can check your own parts against them without installing anything.
