In the year 2054, humanity is caught in the destructive crossfire of two warring alien races, and Earth is destroyed. A handful of interstellar arks manage to flee, among them the White Whale, which after two years of travel is attacked and forced to crash-land on the distant planet Mira. In the chaos, the Lifehold, a device holding the majority of the human colonists, is torn from the ship and scattered across the alien world in lifepods. Awoken from one such pod by a soldier named Elma and suffering from amnesia, the player's avatar is brought to the survivors' settlement of New Los Angeles and joins BLADE, its militia.
