What The Novelist is
The Novelist is an adventure game developed by Orthogonal Games and released in 2013. It is available on Linux, Mac and PC (Microsoft Windows). It runs on Unity.
The premise, in the publisher's words
The Novelist asks one central question: can you achieve your dreams without pushing away the people you love? The game focuses on Dan Kaplan, a novelist struggling to write the most important book of his career while trying to be the best husband and father he can be.
How it plays
It is played from a first person perspective. Its themes are drama and stealth. It is a single-player game with no multiplayer component.
How it was received
The Novelist holds a critic score of 59 out of 100. That places it above 15% of the 7,527 rated adventure games in our database, which average 72. Games released in 2013 averaged 70, so it scored 11 points below the year average.
What you need to run it
The minimum specification calls for 1.8 GHz, 2 GB RAM and 256 MB VRAM video card. At 2GB of RAM, it will run on essentially any working PC — that is below what a budget laptop ships with today. Install size is roughly 1GB. Both tiers are compared side by side on the requirements page, and you can check your own parts against them without installing anything.
What it launched against
